Radio 1 star Charlie Hedges gives birth to a baby girl named Summer Rose

Charlie Hedges, Radio 1 DJ has announced the birth of her first child.

The 35-year-old star shared the happy news via her Instagram account and on Wednesday live on air with Ricky Haywood Williams and Melvin Odoom.

Charlie exclaimed that her life was complete as she shared with Lee the name of their daughter Summer Rose.

Charlie called into her lunchtime Radio 1 radio show Wednesday to update listeners about her maternity leave.

Her co-stars Ricky and Melvin and their temporary co-host Vicky Hawkesworth were delighted with the news, as Charlie told them: ‘I’ve only had a baby haven’t I!’

“Number 1: It’s been the most incredible experience in the entire world. She was born on Saturday, 8:53 am. She is a tiny dream.

She laughed to her friends about Summer Rose being ‘exactly like Mum… she was absolutely huge to the point that everyone in the theatre couldn’t believe her size.

“We were told she’d weigh 7Ibs 1…but in reality she was more than 8Ibs3…She’s already wearing my high heels.

Charlie shared a wonderful moment at the birth with Melvin, Ricky, and reminded them that Melvin had asked Radio 1 listeners to submit songs for her birth playlist a few weeks back.

Charlie explained that there were a couple tracks I had left out. One track was Calvin Harris Summer because it was her name.

“We had about 20 tracks by the end, and the song that she was actually born to was Summer. So she is part the Dance Anthems family!”

Charlie posted a sweet snap on Insta of her baby girl after her announcement. Lee was holding the newborn’s hand. 

She wrote, “Soul Of My Soul, And God Created Woman.” Our beautiful Summer-Rose was birthed Saturday 13th of August 2022. The end of life is the best.

‘AND… she was conceived …. to dance in the Dance Anthems style ….Calvin Harris Summer!Literally, as soon as the tune drops, she enters the world.

Charlie used Radio 1’s Charlie to announce her pregnancy back March to the delight Greg James and her listeners.

The Radio 1 DJ made this revelation during Greg’s breakfast show’s segment titled “Tell Me Something Good”.

Greg turned to her to share some good news. She unexpectedly revealed the shocking truth, saying, “I’m having an baby!”

Greg immediately stopped the music and asked: “You… What are you talking about?”

“You are having a baby!” Are you joking? Are you serious? Greg, I am having a baby! Surprise!’

Then she stood up, and she said: “Does your belly look like mine?” The penny was dropped before Greg could exclaim: “Oh my god!” It’s amazing news!

Charlie took to Twitter after the show and shared a photo with her ultrasound captioned: “Hello everybody, I’m baby Hedges. It is so nice to get to know you all.” I hope to meet you all soon.

Captioning the sweet picture, she wrote: ‘I am so incredibly grateful and excited to be sharing the most beautiful news with you all … I am going to be a new mummy very soon and Baby hedges would like to say hi to you all. 

“To say we are over-the-moon is an understatement”

In her Instagram Stories, she also added: “PS. You can trust me to be as truthful as possible about pregnancy. I’ve asked my mum many questions and felt over the moon every single day, but also anxious and scared on some days. There are a lot of beautiful changes that I have already noticed and feelings I have never experienced before. 

“A HUGEEE congrats all the beautiful moms that have been messaging me with their beautiful news, you are already smashing it already xxx” 

Charlie hosted the Kiss with Rickie Haywood Williams and Melvin Odoom breakfast show for ten years. They were previously known as Rickie Melvin, Charlie, and Melvin. 

In November 2018, it was announced that they would move to BBC Radio 1 to replace Clara Amfo in the mid-evening slot.

She then took over as host of Radio 1’s Dance Anthems on Saturday afternoons in October 2020.

Charlie keeps Charlie’s private life secret and has not disclosed the identity of her father.
