The research of 1,000 mums and dads found even sneaky bathroom hideouts can be challenging at times as 29 per cent don’t feel like they can go to the toilet without being followed by their children.

Nearly 40% of 10 frazzled parents (38%) sit on the toilet scrolling through their phone. 32% pretend they are loading the washing machine, and 29% do housework upstairs in order to have some alone time.

33% have even ate a snack with the head in the kitchen cupboard to enjoy the moment without interruption.

It also emerged 24 per cent consider any chance they do get to simply sit in silence as quality ‘me time’, while 26 per cent view sleeping as a treat.

One in six (16%) thinks that simply eating breakfast is blissful.

A study found that 78% of respondents feel overwhelmed by juggling parenthood and work, and 56% are exhausted trying to find time to do activities on weekends.

But parents also forgo five ‘me time’ moments a week for the good of the kids.

A staggering nine in 10 (92 per cent) struggle to find enough ‘me time’ for themselves, with a third admitting they also find it hard to do anything fun with their partner due to their relentless life commitments.

And 32 per cent don’t feel like they can because of the constant chores.

Nearly half (48 per cent) don’t have any regular help from family members to look after the children leaving 53 per cent ‘forgetting’ to eat during an entire day.

OnePoll also found that 40% of parents feel tired after a night of sleeping. This leaves them feeling exhausted and unable to function at their best.

A spokesperson for Energizer, which commissioned the research, said: “Parents certainly have a lot on their hands with endless ‘to do’ lists that never seem to include any ‘me time’.

“This is clearly leading to frazzled mums and dads desperately seeking a slice of serenity in any way they possibly can, including taking refuge in the bathroom.

“In today’s ever busy world, we’re urging parents to take just 15 minutes each day to re-charge their batteries.

We recommend that parents stock up on batteries especially before Christmas to prevent them feeling overwhelmed trying to power up gadgets and toys to keep their children entertained.
