A week after welcoming a baby girl, a Georgia couple returned to the McDonald’s where their “Little Nugget” made her surprise debut.
Parents Alandria Worthy and Deandre Phillips celebrated their bundle of joy on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at a baby shower at the Atlanta restaurant where employees helped deliver the newborn in a restroom, according to McDonald’s officials.
Keisha Blue-Murray, Sha’querria Kaigler and Tunisia Woodward jumped into action when Worthy went into labor the day before Thanksgiving.
“There’s screaming, she’s busting out a sweat, she’s in labor. … ‘We’re about to have a baby,’” Kaigler told WXIA. “I was really hoping the ambulance would get here before the baby. I’m not a doctor, I’m a mom. I gave birth but being on the other end, it’s something completely different.”
Blue-Murray described it as a “moment I’ll never forget,” according to the station.
All three women were at the shower to celebrate the baby girl named Nandi Phillips — better known as “Little Nugget.”
Worthy and Phillips were headed to a hospital on Nov. 23 but stopped at McDonald’s for a bathroom break and to grab something to eat, WSB-TV reported. That’s when Worthy realized her water broke and that she was in active labor.
She said delivering her baby in a restaurant bathroom “was not the ideal plan,” WGCL reported. Phillips assisted employees in bringing their baby girl into this world.
“I was like … I don’t want to do it in here,” Worthy recalled, according to the station. “They were like … you have no choice, she is coming.”
During Wednesday’s shower, the couple was gifted with diapers, wipes, clothing, toys and other essentials, WAGA reported. The parents were also given $500 by Steve Akinboro (owner and operator of the Atlanta store).
Blue-Murray and Kaigler were also rewarded with $250 gift cards for their quick thinking, according to WSB-TV.
McClatchy News reached out to McDonald’s for comment on Thursday and was awaiting a response.
