Rebel Wilson shocked her followers on November 7th by posting an Instagram announcement that she had given birth to a baby girl. She shared a photo of Royce Lillian, her newborn girl, and revealed that she was a surrogate.
Rebel wrote in the caption: “Beyond happy to announce the birth, Royce Lillian this past week via surrogate.” “She’s a miracle, I can’t describe how much I love her. I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making.”
She continued, “But particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. It was an incredible gift. Thank you for helping to start my family. This is the best gift!
Though Rebel confirmed she didn’t carry her daughter, she hasn’t addressed the question of paternity. Here’s what we know.
Rebel Wilson Might Have Had a Donor
Since Rebel used a surrogate, her baby would’ve been conceived through artificial insemination. It’s likely that Rebel chose to use her eggs in the process– an embryo created using Rebel’s eggs would’ve been implanted into the surrogate. This would make Rebel the baby’s biological mother, despite not carrying her.
Rebel hasn’t confirmed if she used her eggs but she has admitted to undergoing an egg retrieval previously (which is the first step), so it’s possible.
The alternative would’ve been to use an egg donor. But in either case, the actress would’ve needed a male contribution. If she didn’t have someone in mind, the actress could’ve used an anonymous sperm donor.
This is especially common for single mothers who are having a child. Rebel’s birth announcement and subsequent posts haven’t mentioned a father being in the picture. It appears that she is raising her daughter alone, making the sperm donor theory most plausible.
Rebel Wilson Gets Pregnant With Fertility Assistance
Rebel may be keeping certain details of her daughter’s birth under wraps, but the Pitch Perfect Star has always been open about her fertility journey throughout the years.
She underwent a dramatic weight loss several years ago, which she’s admitted was motivated by her desire to have children. Rebel went to a fertility doctor to try to freeze and harvest her eggs. But the specialist recommended that she lose weight to increase her chances.
“I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh God, this’s guy’s so rude,’” she said. “He was right. I was carrying around excess weight. It almost felt like I didn’t consider my needs. It was thinking about the needs of my future children that inspired me to be healthier.
Rebel – who has PCOS, which can make getting pregnant difficult –revealed she underwent a total of three surgeries in hopes of increasing her chances of conception. She attempted IVF, but none were successful.
It appears she may have considered surrogacy after IVF wasn’t successful, though Rebel didn’t publicly acknowledge she was using a surrogate until after her daughter’s birth.
Rebel Wilson Is Dating Ramona Agruma
There’s more evidence that Rebel likely used donor sperm to conceive her daughter – she’s currently dating a woman, fashion and jewelry designer Ramona Agruma.
Even prior to her relationship with Ramona, Rebel hadn’t been romantically tied to a man for over a year. She likely opted to use a donor, given that she was not with a male partner at the time of her daughter’s conception. Jacob Bush was her last romantically connected person.
She broke up with him in February 2021, with reports saying he was “blindsided” by her decision to end their relationship.
Rebel previously said she was open to having a baby with the “right person,” but she also didn’t seemed closed off to the idea of solo parenting.
“I would love a family. “I’m going for it all by myself right now because of my biological clock,” she said. PEOPLE In 2019. “If I find the right person, great. Then they can fit in with everything that happens.”
That doesn’t rule out the possibility that Rebel used a donor she knows personally, like a friend. But the actress hasn’t disclosed any details about her daughter’s paternity and is unlikely to do so, given how personal a matter it is.
It is also unclear whether Rebel is co-parenting her boyfriend. Ramona hasn’t appeared to refer to herself as Royce’s other parents in any social media posts or publicly. Rebel and Ramona only went public with their romance in June 2022, so the surrogate would’ve already been several months pregnant at the time.
Even though the couple was together for months before publicizing their engagement, it would have been a very short time to decide to have children together. Rebel was still with her ex-boyfriend in 2021. Nonetheless, Ramona has been supportive of Rebel’s journey to becoming a mom, even throwing her a baby shower.
As it stands, the paternity of Rebel’s daughter remains unconfirmed. It is evident that Rebel is a loving mother.
