The FX Docuseries Dear Mama The series premieres April 21 at 10:00 ET/PT. Hulu will stream it the next day. The series will debut with the first two episodes and one episode every week thereafter.
Allen Hughes Dear Mama Explores the intimate relationship between mother and son, Afeni Shakur and Tupac Shakur. Afeni is a revolutionary and influential artist.
Hughes promises to show Tupac-lovers video and audio footage that they have never seen before.
“Wherever possible, we tried to find archival footage that hadn’t been seen so there’s a lot that we have in the 5 five parts,” said Hughes during FX’s TCA presentation on Thursday. “There’s also audio that’s never been heard. Not just his vocals, but a lot more of Tupac’s baby years that have never been heard. Two of the most important aspects of the project for Tupac fans are the never-before-seen. But most importantly, you get to understand why he made certain decisions.”
Hughes serves as executive producer, writer, and director along with executive producer and writer Lasse Järvi and executive producers Quincy Delight Jones III (QD3), Staci Robinson, Nelson George, Charles King, Peter Nelson, Adel “Future” Nur, Jamal Joseph and Ted Skillman. A Defiant Ones Media Group Production, An Amaru Entertainment Production, in association with MACRO Entertainment and DreamCrew Entertainment produced the five-part docuseries.
