Ireland Baldwin opened up about her pregnancy in an open post.
“Pregnancy is hard. It takes so much out of you,” Baldwin wrote in a lengthy Instagram post on January 18. “I wasn’t ready for that.” The 27-year-old daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger announced she was expecting her first child with her musician boyfriend André Allen Anjos on January 1 by sharing an ultrasound image on her feed.
In her latest post, the self-aware nepobaby talked about how she feels isolated due to the distance she experiences from certain family members. The former model and business owner moved to Gearhart from Los Angeles during the pandemic. “I grew up with a very jaded perception of what love really looked like and I always wanted to have a child of my own with someone who would treat us right and love us unconditionally,” she wrote, later adding, “It’s hard not being really close to family to begin with because they live far or are idiots that I want nothing to do with.”

Baldwin also spoke out about the effects pregnancy has on her mental and physical health. “I underestimated just how hard pregnancy would be on my mind and body,” she continued. “Being someone who deals with extreme health anxiety on a daily basis, pregnancy turned things into a high gear. I’ve struggled to adapt to these changes. Feelings in the body. Itchy and painful sensations. Organs going shit crazy. I know everyone has an entirely different experience and mine is easy compared to most, but fuck it’s a struggle.”
Ireland Baldwin shares her pregnancy experience so that other expectant mothers can feel less alone. “This shit is HARD. And you’re not alone if you feel the same,” she captioned her post. “And it’s ok to be REAL and post highlight reels. It’s ok to be happy and sad at the same time. I am grateful but I am struggling and that’s perfectly ok.”
Women are often expected to put a happy spin on their pregnancy journeys—and motherhood in general, let’s be real—lest they be considered “bad mothers” for daring to be honest about the physical and mental ramifications. Celebrities are becoming more open to honest conversations. “I’m gonna keep it real: For me, pregnancy is the worst experience of my life,” Kardashian West wrote on her website during her pregnancy with Saint West in 2015. “I’m not sure why I don’t like the experience like others do. It could be the swelling, backaches or the total mind-fuck that your body expands, and everything doesn’t fit. I feel out of my skin all the time. It’s hard for me to explain. I don’t feel sexy, either—I feel insecure, and most of the time I just feel gross.”
