Acadiana now offers a residential facility to pregnant women and mothers with young dependent children. This is Meredith’s Place. Meredith’s Place’s name is derived from a tragic incident.
Meredith Lindsay Street, beloved mother and sister, is Meredith’s Place’s inspiration. Meredith was a Breaux Bridge native who struggled with the cycle of addiction her entire life.
Meredith, a mother of two, was killed by a drug overdose in July 2007. Meredith died just months before she graduated from UL Lafayette with a Business degree.
Meredith’s family wanted to help prevent overdose deaths in the future. They donated to the organization in her memory. Her family wanted to make it possible that other mothers could recover from addiction in a safe environment.
Meredith’s Place, which opened in December 2022, currently houses seven clients. The maximum capacity is 17 clients.
Meredith’s Place’s mission is to provide support, treatment, and resources to women suffering from substance use disorders and their families in order for them to lead a healthy lifestyle that is free of the damaging effects of addiction.
Meredith’s Place has a tremendous impact on the community and is proving to be a catalyst of change. Mothers and children can receive care and services in a new residential facility.
