Ariana Christie is learning to love and accept her postpartum body.
The Canadian influencer, Cali, took to Instagram this weekend to post a series photos of her belly before and during her birth.
The content creator combined the photos with a message about self-confidence and body image for mothers.
“This week I went dress shopping, which I already find difficult to do while having a body that’s changing.” She began the caption.
The self-love advocate explained that she was accompanied by her daughter while trying on dresses. A sales associate helped her zip up a dress and said: “I’ll get you a bigger size to try too because you’re pregnant right?”
“My heart was broken. “My heart sank. I was feeling quite confident about my body this week and this really tore me down. I didn’t want her to feel bad but I felt absolutely awful,” she revealed.
Christie informed the associate that she wasn’t pregnant and was a new mom with a baby three months old. The influencer said that she told the store previously she was feeling “uncomfortable and self-conscious.”
“I had told the sales associate, when I walked in the store, that I was looking to buy three dresses. I was also feeling uncomfortable in my body since I had a baby a few weeks prior and was self-conscious,” she wrote.
Christie stated that the message was not conveyed to the woman at the change room, so it wasn’t her fault.
The mother-of-3 wondered why she felt so “self-conscious.”
“Why do I feel so conscious of my body? Why am I trying so hard to cover my strongest parts? My body was something I was proud to be a few months back. Its strength was something I was awed of. I was proud of my baby belly and wore tight clothes. But now that I’ve done the most incredible thing, given birth to a human life, I’m embarrassed. To hide the fact I had a baby, I wore baggy clothes all the time. “I should be prouder now, when in reality I should be more proud.” Christie explained.
The influencer finished her caption with an inspirational message.
“So I guess what I’m trying to say is let’s celebrate our bodies in every stage. Let’s be proud of what they are doing each and every day. And let’s not cover up the beauty that they hold,” she said.
Christie was thanked by her fans for her courage, and she shared her “stories & experiences” in the comments.
“Evidence of life, birth and how a brilliant organ has done a beautiful job in carrying you. [your children]Sarah Nicole Landry (a fellow influencer) commented, “That’s what I think.” She also writes about body images, postpartum bodies, motherhood and motherhood.
“In less then two years, your body created three human beings. This is amazing! “Shared by another.
“Isn’t that true? Your stories and experiences are so unique and beautiful. One person added, “Many people can relate to you. You are so brave.”
