Pregnancy can be magical And excruciating. Exciting And overwhelming. It is demanding And The calm before the storm.
This is true for most people who experience pregnancy, but it’s doubly true for those with ADHD, roughly 96% of whom cease taking stimulant medication while pregnant and nursing. In addition, ADHD symptoms can be exacerbated by the constant demands of caring for an infant. This is because of changes in hormone levels and disturbed sleep.
A new routine and a newborn can make it hard for women to deal with emotions. For those who stopped using ADHD medication during pregnancy, especially, this may lead to depression and anxiety. Clinicians who treat perinatal ADHD patients should consider the risks and benefits of stimulant use during this crucial time.
Women, partners and professionals can learn from this webinar:
- Concerning the interplay between ADHD symptoms and neurobiology during and after pregnancy
- Information about the risk analysis for stimulant use during pregnancy and postpartum
- How to plan for early motherhood and the risk of anxiety and depression in ADHD women
- The impact of hormones and ADHD on the entire lifespan. And the interaction with medication
