You will be surprised at how much you don’t know about yourself during pregnancy. You think you know what size shoe to buy? Nope! You think you understand your emotions? Think again! You think you know what your appetite is? Yeah freakin’ right. You think you know what your skin tone is? Oh honey, you’re wrong. Because as if nailing down an effective skincare routine isn’t complicated enough, pregnancy can bring on all kinds of dermatological changes.
The pregnancy “glow” can really just be excess oils that result in acne. Increased melanin levels can cause dark spots. Stretch marks are also common. And even if you don’t see any changes, you may have to say “buh-bye” to your favorite products (at least for now!) if they contain ingredients that aren’t safe to use during pregnancy.
Great.
We are constantly on the lookout for products that will make a mom-to-be more confident (literally) in her skin. There’s this vitamin C serum that has been a “game-changer” for dark spots. Model Ashley Graham claims that this rose spray makes her stomach soft and dewy. And there are these acne patches that have become a staple of actor Brenda Song’s postpartum routine. Halsey’s favorite postpartum ingredient was shared by the band.

Halsey’s Go-To Ingredient
Image Credit: Stephane Feugere for WWD Halsey, a single mother of one, is proud. Alev Aydin is their boyfriend and they share a two-year-old boy, Ender. Ender’s influence on Halsey’s skincare routine was significant. That’s because Halsey’s beloved skincare ingredient is breast milk.
Halsey told Nylon in an interview that she has always been conscious of what she puts on her skin. And so now that they have a baby to kiss and snuggle, they have become “hyper-cognizant” of what’s on their face.
“I started breastfeeding and I figured out that breast milk is the best skincare ingredient ever because it’s so full of antioxidants and good fats and stuff that speed up the healing process.”

Colostrum For The Win
Image Credit: Adobe Stock If you’re picturing Halsey rubbing their own breast milk on their face, think again. Breast milk is used in many products, usually from cows. They are touted as having anti-aging benefits.
Halsey said they love Biologique Repecharge’s Colostrum VG Serum which is formulated with colostrum, the first form of breast milk mammals produce. As you can imagine, it’s not a simple product to source, and the price tag reflects it. Epicuren Discovery Colostrum Glow Cream is a cheaper alternative. Shoppers said they would “sing the praises of this moisturizer from the rooftops if [they] could!”

Keke’s Secret
Image credit: Michael Buckner, Variety Keke Palmer has developed her own hack for skincare this year. She said that being pregnant is the secret to having clear skin.
“There’s no more bumps,” the comedian said in a hilarious Instagram video. “There’s no more of the raise. And so I’m here to let y’all know that I found the secret. I’ve found the solution to my acne, and you can guess what it is. You need to be knocked up. Period. “Plain and simple.” Period.”
And if that’s what it takes to have clear skin, Palmer is all in.
“Call me Keke Wyatt,” she said, referencing the singer-songwriter who has 11 children. “Cuz I’m about to be pregnant for the rest of my life!”
