The woman, who is expecting her second child, says that she “freaked out” when her mother-in law told her gardeners were going to plant a new tree in the front garden without asking permission.
After seeing the email that her mother-in law sent to her, a heavily pregnant woman almost jumped out of skin when she saw that gardeners would be on their way to plant a new tree in her front garden.
The mum is frantic, as she’s due to give birth in a week. She says that her mother-in law sent an email at 8am advising of the planting of the 5-foot tree on the same day.
She said that her mother in law had not asked their permission before, and she made the arrangements with no agreement or approval from them.
Her daughter, who is three years old, was named after a particular type of tree. Her inlaws wanted to buy a tree for her as a gift to pay tribute to this little girl.
They have not made any firm plans, as they are worried that their home might be too small and won’t look good. Her in-laws would bring up the subject, but she and her husband told them they needed to consider it.
Reddit was the place where the mother vented her frustration: “I told the husband to call and tell the company NOT to plant any plants without our permission.
“I have to confirm that the variety is one I like and consider WHERE it should be placed in the yard, etc. This is an important, permanent decision for the front of our house and I think it should be left up to us.
“Also I don’t think I have the time or energy to deal with it and make decisions this coming week. (Why did they choose this week?!As I am working until my C-section date and preparing the rest of the home for the baby’s arrival this week,
She added: “My husband believes I am overreacting, because I am pregnant. He claims that his mother is “just trying to do nice” and the gift is fine. I find it very intrusive when someone orders a renovation without the consent of their owner.
One fellow Reddit user wrote: “Your mother-in-law chose the perfect timing to pull this s***. She knew you were too preoccupied and busy to have a good fight. She is showing who’s boss, and your husband agrees that SHE IS the boss.
“A tree can be an incredible gift, but it’s only worth it if you are able to take care of it.” You will both be too busy to transplant them, as they are fragile.
One person said: “Tell her company to plant the tree. You simply do not have time or space to maintain a newly-planted tree.
If this were a different situation, and she had permission to give it, then this would be a great gift. However, because of the timing and the fact that neither of you cleared this first, let the landscapers put the tree in the yard.
